#1 5DP EdCamp
Save the date!
The 5DP will host our first EdCamp on February 2nd (snow date 2/9/19) at Malden High School. We feel that the greatest strength of the 5DP is our experienced and accomplished teachers. An EdCamp is teacher led PD at its best!
If you are not familiar with EdCamps, they are free and participant-driven learning events. Teachers suggest and lead sessions. They aim to be spontaneous, interactive, and responsive to the needs of the group. They value the experience of the educators in the room and rely on the “Rule of Two Feet” – meaning that you are encouraged to leave the session if it is not meeting your needs. For more about EdCamp check out their website .
#2 Teacher Committee for EdCamp
Do you have experience with EdCamp? Or good ideas about how to engage teachers?
We will be forming a committee of teachers to help us plan our first ever EdCamp this winter. This will be a role with a minimal time commitment and a chance to influence and shape our EdCamp. We will have approximately 3 planning meetings, but some of these can be virtual depending on the needs of the group. We would also like you to commit to being at the EdCamp on February 2nd from 8:30-12:30. In return you will build your leadership skills, help teachers, receive 15 PDPs, and gain our gratitude! If you are interested, please contact Cove Davis by November 5th!
#3 Assessment and Mastery Connect Survey
Attention Chelsea, Everett, and Revere teachers!
Our first set of assessments are almost complete. We would love your feedback on these assessments. We really do use your input! It is shared with the Superintendent Leadership team, 5DP Steering Committee, and the teams creating the assessments. Anonymously, of course! This time we have also added a few questions about Mastery Connect if you use that platform. If you administered one of our 5DP Benchmark assessments this fall, please take a moment to complete the survey.

#4 Coaching and the Power of Data in Everett
Over the course of the last two school years, the 5DP supported an instructional coaching project with Research for Better Teaching (RBT). As part of this project, all coaches received training, and each district had a pilot school that received additional support. The Madeline English School was Everett’s pilot school. The article below outlines the success of the project as well as the overall strategy that RBT used to create positive change in schools. Take a moment to read this good news story!
